Why Everybody Wins With An Online Bachelor Degree
By Sarah Maple-11606
I couldn’t quite take my manager seriously when I was told that a BA degree online would be a good thing for my job. I already knew how to do my job, surely? It seemed like a lot of effort just for a bit of paper. In fact it was a great idea, because my professional outlook has improved and my skills and knowledge base have increased.

Once I realised I didn’t actually have to go to a college, so no stressful travelling and wasting time there, and my employers would pay for it, and it could all be done via an online college, I enrolled. Check out quality sites like kaplanopenlearning.org.uk.

The technology was easy to work out. My basic computer skills were enough to ensure I had access to a range of learning tools and resources. Three weeks into my online bachelors degree and not only was I enjoying the course, but I was also finding I was enjoying my job more, applying what I was learning on the course to aspects of my professional work.

I’m nearly at the end of my first year of an online bachelor’s degree, and it’s been a very useful experience so far. I think, because online colleges deliver their courses geared for people who need to be flexible with their learning because they have other commitments like work and family, students can get a lot more from their studies.

The teaching staff are usually from the professional environment that relates to the online degree, or still

working in it as well as teaching. So that makes life so much easier when you can’t get to watch a live web broadcast of a class. They’ll record the class then leave it for you to watch later, at a time that suits you. A quality resource is Kaplan Distance Learning.

This is the point of e-learning - that you can access so much information through the Internet, email or even mobile telephones. My online college makes studying an efficient, informative process. What I appreciate most about the e-learning concept is that it is not just an automated process. I get my emails answered by academic staff promptly and with the information I need.

It’s not just a case of plonking stuff on the Internet and then charging people to read it. My online bachelors degree is about communication with others, engagement in the subject and real, beneficial application to my career. This is a course that not only will help me progress, but could even help me change jobs. And it’s not just at the end of the course and getting the online degree, but throughout, I can apply what I learn immediately in the work place.

My colleagues too are benefiting, because knowledge and skills can be shared as much as learnt. I’m grateful I didn’t have to take chunks of time off work, and I could prioritise between study, work and personal time. Studying for an online BA degree is a win all round situation, it benefits everybody.
